Apartment and house renovation
Asturias, Gijón
Renovating a home is one of the most significant decisions a person makes. It involves time, money and real excitement. And it deserves to be done properly: with a rigorous project, materials that last, and a team that supports you from start to finish without leaving you to face the building work alone.
At AGHO Arquitectura, we specialise in the renovation of apartments and single-family homes in Asturias, with an approach that always puts the client’s real needs at the centre of the design. Every home has its own story, its constraints and its possibilities. Our job is to find the best solution for each one.
Apartment refurbishments in Asturias
Whether you want to make better use of an existing flat, update an older property, improve its energy performance or give it a complete aesthetic overhaul, the starting point is always the same: listening to you and understanding what you need.
We analyse the current layout, identify the real problems — not just the obvious ones — and design a proposal that makes the most of every square metre. We work on both full refurbishments and more targeted interventions, always including the technical project and site supervision.
Our recent projects in Gijón — Apartment LI (115 m²) and Apartment MI (85 m²) — are good examples of how a well-considered renovation can completely transform the experience of living in a home, well beyond the aesthetic.
Single-family home renovation
Single-family homes present their own particular challenges: layouts that no longer suit contemporary life, building envelopes with significant heat loss, spaces that have become obsolete. Renovating a house is an opportunity to rethink from scratch how you want to live in it.
We approach these projects with an integrated perspective: layout, natural light, energy efficiency, materials and aesthetics — all coordinated to produce a result that is coherent and built to last. If carrying out the works in phases is necessary to manage the investment, we plan it that way from the outset.
Energy renovation: comfort and long-term savings
One of the most cost-effective improvements you can make to a home is upgrading its envelope: facades, roof, windows and thermal bridges. Combined with good ventilation and efficient systems, it significantly reduces energy consumption and improves comfort throughout the year.
At AGHO, we integrate energy efficiency into every renovation project — not as an optional extra, but as a natural part of the design process. We also manage the necessary energy certificates and advise you on the available grants for this type of work.

Frequently asked questions about apartment and home renovation in Asturias
How much does it cost to renovate an apartment in Asturias?
The cost of a full apartment renovation in Asturias depends on the starting condition of the property, the finishes chosen and the scope of the work. A partial renovation (bathroom, kitchen or layout change) is considerably less expensive than a full refurbishment. To give you an accurate budget we need to understand your property: tell us about it and we’ll assess it together.
Do I need an architect to renovate my flat?
It depends on the type of work. Renovations involving structural changes, layout modifications, facade works or change of use require a technical project signed by an architect and a municipal permit. Even for more straightforward renovations, having an architect involved from the outset ensures the result is technically sound, complies with regulations, respects the budget and runs without unexpected complications.
How long does a full home renovation take?
A full refurbishment of a medium-sized flat (between 70 and 120 m²) typically takes between four and five months from the start of construction, not including project preparation and permit time. The timeline depends on the scope of the work, material availability and trade coordination. We provide a detailed programme during the project phase.
Can you carry out the renovation in phases to spread the investment?
Yes. At AGHO Arquitectura we plan many renovations in phases, particularly for single-family homes. The important thing is to design the complete project from the outset to ensure the coherence of the final result and avoid having to undo work that has already been done.
Do you handle the building permits?
Yes. Managing permits and administrative procedures is part of our service. We prepare all the necessary documentation, submit it to the relevant local authority and follow up until the approval is obtained. You don’t have to deal with any of the paperwork.
